Perpetrators of death

Perpetrators of death is an installation I presented at Galerie Annette De Keyser. It is a project listing all murderers in Belgium since 1959. The information is gathered from newspaper-articles on microfilm which I searched day by day in the city-archives. I have currently information about some 800 murderers, which is until early 70's. From all who had a picture included, I made prints from the microfilm, scanned them and cropped out only the eyes which I then printed again on large format. For each print I made a metal frame, the print was glued on the glass and the back painted. The installation consists of over 100 frames on each wall of the gallery, the spectator is forced inbetween, finding himself reduced to an object of observation by some 200 pairs of eyes of murderers. For your convenience I have made a small shockwave-animation which will give you an idea what it's like to wander through the installation and slide past all the gazes.
