PERFORMAN-DDV
This website is an adaptation of a book published by DDV in 1998.
The book is for part a reprint of a performan-book published by DDV in 1982, as a loose collection of xeroxes. It was ment to catalogue all the performances done until then. Quite a few had been done in private, and were unknown to anybody at that time, as early as 'Thriller', there was no audience involved, and the often the only available picture was made with a camera at armlength or with self-timing devices. The whole 'Untitled' series was done in the same manner. There simply weren't enough possibilities to present these works in public, but yet the uncontrollable urge needed them to be done anyway. On some of the public events, performances lined up in series of 2, or as many as 5 on one night.
As of 1982 the interest had moved towards the use of electronic noise, first as a companion to the actions themselves, later on as self-containing events. This work resulted in the formation of a noise-music-band 'Club Moral' with Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven. Club Moral played on numerous music-festivals among leading bands in the industrial and noise-music genre. As soon as the status of music-band was achieved, the performance-aspect started showing up again, and became a worthly aspect once again of the public events.
In addition to a large œuvre of sculptures and installations, the restrained performances, without involvement of any spectators continue until this day. Sometimes the available pictures are used in other works or installations, like in the 'Joachim Kroll- murders' pieces, some might only be shown to the public in a couple of years.
Each piece is presented on a separate page, use the pop-up-menu below to make your choice.
The book (A5-90p) costs U$ 14.00 or £ 8.50 + postage and can be ordered from DDV
